Brief History of the College

The defunct Gongola State Government, under the Educational Programmes of a Five-Year Development Plan (1980–1985), decided to establish a State Advanced Teachers' College to cater for the ever-growing need for more qualified teachers. Consequently, the College was established in 1981 vide Gongola State Edict Law No. 4 of 1982, in Gazette No. 3 Volume 10 of 1985, and situated at Hong.

The College commenced its maiden session in January 1983 with a total of ninety-five (95) students enrolled in various NCE programmes offered in the schools of Education, Humanities, Languages, Pure and Applied Sciences, with a total of sixteen (16) courses of different subject combinations.

The nomenclature of the College was later changed from Advanced Teachers' College, Hong to Adamawa State College of Education, Hong by a gazette published by Adamawa State Government — ADS Law No. 4, 2015. This Law also captured the retirement age of College staff as sixty-five years, disregarding thirty-five years of service, helping retain qualified and well-trained lecturers.
